This simple exercise tests out your understand of order of operations.

In math, the order of operations tells you in which order you need to solve the different tasks as part of a sum. Items in brackets come first, then exponents (such as squares or roots), then multiplication or division and finally addition or subtraction. Knowing this teaches you how to solve a sum featuring different elements in the right way.

This exercise presents you with five problems at a time, and asks you to work out what the missing operation is that will get you the right answer. You simply need to click on the symbol for addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.

The activity is suitable for fourth and fifth graders, and you can launch a new series of puzzles after completing the first set, to give you a little more practice.
